Description
Petitgrain Essential Oil (Citrus aurantium) distilled leaf oil
Our Petitgrain Essential Oil has a fresh floral woody aroma. Steam distilled from the leaves and twigs of the same tree that also produces Neroli or Orange Blossom distilled Oil as well as bitter orange expressed oil.
The name Petitgrain derives from the fact that the oil was extracted from the small green unripe oranges, “little grains”. Although the process now uses the leaves and twigs, especially those at the ends of branches.
Petitgrain is one of the classic ingredients in the original eau de cologne along with Bergamot.
Petitgrain has a pale yellow to amber colour and a thin consistency. It is ideal to use in your diffuser or for topical use if diluted in an appropriate carrier oil.
Like many citrus derived oils, Petitgrain has an uplifting character for the mood. It is also refreshing and calming, and is useful for anger, panic or other feeling of agitation. Use in a diffuser to lift the mood in any space. Or add to a carrier oil to use topically as a delightful and uplifting body oil.
It is both balancing and uplifting in aromatherapy blends.
Paraguay is by far the largest producer of petitgrain essential oil making it the most commonly available. But it is also produced in Algeria, Egypt, France, Italy, Morocco, Spain and Tunisia.
