Tea Tree Essential Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) distilled leaf oil

Our Tea Tree essential oil has a powerful medicinal aroma reflecting its usefulness for a variety of health conditions. Steam distilled from the needle-like leaves of a small tree native to Australia,.

Tea tree is a small tree with needle-like leaves and has a long history of use by the aboriginal people.  In the early part of the 20th century the medical profession also began to take an interest.

According to the University of Sydney, the first recorded account of tea tree for medicinal purposes was in 1770, when Lieutenant James Cook used the leaves to treat scurvy among his sailors. By the 1930s and 1940s, tea tree oil was widely celebrated as an antiseptic treatment. During the Second World War, tea tree oil formed part of the first aid kits issued to Australian Soldiers.

Tea Tree Oil only comes from one source the leaves of the melaleuca tree. The oil has a clear to pale yellow or pale yellow-green colour and a thin consistency.

Tea tree has a warm spicy fresh and camphoraceous aroma. Valued for its antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties, which make it useful for many infections illnesses and conditions, from those affecting the respiratory system to skin conditions and insect bites.

 

How to Use

For Adults only (Please seek professional advice for any other use)

Diffusion: use 6-8 drops in water in your diffuser

Massage: add 10-15 drops to 1 tablespoon (20ml) of your choice of carrier oil or unscented massage oil.

Baths: mix  3-4 drops with a teaspoon (5ml) of Essential Oil Dispersant or Unscented Liquid Soap and add to your bath water.
