Description
Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil (Cinnamonum zeylanicum)
Our Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil is warming and stimulating with a spicy aroma. Used in Asia for thousands of years for a variety of health complaints.
Our Cinnamon leaf is steam distilled from the leaves of a tropical evergreen tree native to Sri Lanka. The tree has strong branches, thick bark, shiny green leaves and small white flowers. The tree produces two essential oils, from the leaves and the bark respectively. The leaf oil is preferred in aromatherapy as it is less irritant than the oil extracted from the bark.
Cinnamon Leaf has a yellow to brownish colour and is a slightly viscous consistency. The aroma is warm and spicy with a harsh note.
Cinnamon Leaf is antiseptic as well as being stimulating to the nervous, digestive and immune symptoms with a warming, tonic action. Used for aches and pains due to its warming action as well as for cold and flu symptoms.
Cinnamon Leaf great in your diffuser or for topical use in a carrier oil. However, even though less irritant than Cinnamon Bark, we recommend limiting topical use to a concentration of no more than .6% essential oil in an appropriate carrier oil.
Best avoided during pregnancy.
How to Use
For Adults only (Please seek professional advice for any other use)
Diffusion: use 5-6 drops in water in your diffuser
Massage: add 2-4 drops to 1 tablespoon (20ml) of your choice of carrier oil or unscented massage oil.
General Safety Information
Although Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil is less irritant than Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil, it may still cause skin irritation if used topically in high concentrations. Therefore we recommend using Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil in concentrations of .6% or below. (See recommended dosage for massage oils above.)
