Description
Black Pepper Essential Oil (Piper nigrum)
Our Black Pepper Essential Oil is stimulating and energising. Steam-distilled from the berries of the black pepper plant (piper nigrum) and has a sweet, warm and spicy scent with woody undertones. It brings energy and strength to mind body.
The colour ranges from clear to pale greenish-olive, and the oil has a thin consistency.
Black Pepper can be used in a diffuser or topically. When applied topically in a massage oil, Black Pepper Oil is a warming, circulatory stimulant and therefore excellent for muscular pain, cramps, fatigue, and stiffness. If using on the skin we recommend you dilute it appropriately with a carrier oil as it may cause irritation if used in high concentrations.
Mentally it is energising and stimulating to the mind and is useful for concentration or motivation.
The spicy aroma of Black Pepper is the reason chefs recommend using freshly ground black pepper in cooking. However the essential oil is volatile, meaning it dissipates relatively quickly. The result being that the ground pepper will lose its aroma over time and be less flavourful.
The Ancient Greeks and Romans used Black Pepper to aid the performance of athletes and help maintain healthy skin.
